Ballard Internship: Automated Test Station

summer '21

technical skills: Control Panel, Electrical I/Os, 600/480 VAC

In the summer 2021, I got to work at Ballard as an Electrical Engineer on their Lab and Equipment Design (LEDS) team, where we build and design automated fuel cell test station. My first main project is to work on upgrading several test stations to meet new requirements from the change request. This work involved calculate Short Circuit Current Fault (SCCR) in the 600/480VAC and sized fuses and circuit breakers accordingly. In addition, I got to source different components to upgrade such as power supplies, motor drives, cables,...Finally, I got to work with EPAN and ACADE for I/Os harnesses both internal and externals to the main control panel. My second project is to work with industrial load bank where we use to test the performance of the fuel cell for high power application. I got to work with multiple vendors before finalizing the decision, given that they are expensive and long lead times.
